Model making provides an early opportunity to test and validate design intent. At PDu, this forms a key ingredient of our front-end design process. Our process is geared to getting a physical representation of the concept into the hands of our clients and end users as quickly as possible. We have three methods of producing models.
(1) Foam Modelling
The quickest method is to produce hand carved foam models. Using 3D CAD we produce internal arrangement models to use as virtual templates for the foam modelling. We can translate our initial 2D ideas into accurate 3D representations and inject real feedback into the project before our clients have committed any significant investment.
(2) CNC Machined Models
Using our in house facilities we can produce a higher degree of accuracy and surface detail by utilising initial 3D CAD data to machine models from foam.
(3) FDM (Fuse Deposition Modelling)
We have the latest in FDM technology to produce functional models in ABS accurate to 0.1mm. This allows us to produce funtional models within hours of design review meetings.
To aid this process we have partnerships with a number of leading model making specialists. Through these partnerships we can produce high quality presentation models for marketing purposes prior to tooling and production.
